Tibet Music Treasures to Beijing

( Post Time: April 20,2010 )

a music instrument in Tibet as the treasure in this festival

On April 14th, the Second Symphonic Festival of China was held. A special musicians group had attended this festival. The Tibet Philharmonic Orchestra brought a strong ethic atmosphere during their appearance at the National Center. During this period, Tibet artists had showcased several pieces of mysterious “treasure”.
All the musicians in this group grew up in Tibet. Established in 2002, the Tibet Philharmonic Orchestra consists of instrumentalists from the Song and Dance Troupe of Tibet Autonomous Region, the Art Ensemble of Shannan Prefecture and the Lhasa Song and Dance Troupe, as well as some teachers from the Tibet Art School. In 2008, the “5.12 earthquake” prevented the orchestra from attending the First Symphonic Festival of China which was also held in the National Center for the Performing Arts. Two years later, however, the orchestra was able to make it to Beijing and becomes the only symphony orchestra consisting of minority ethnic group musicians to visit Beijing.
The number of the orchestra members is still increasing and till now they are 68 members who are Tibetans except two of them. This year, the orchestra has just recruited three fresh graduates from the Sichuan Conservatory of Music.
